Product Description
Checkers is one of the oldest games in existence, and its popularity hasn't waned!
The earliest Checkers-style game was unearthed in Mesopotamia! Ancient Egyptians had their own variation, too. This game has been popular for thousands of years!
Checkers involves strategy and the ability to think ahead several moves, without being overly complicated. With just a few simple rules, even younger children can learn to play!
In America, it's called Checkers; in England it's called Draughts; and there are variants across the globe. Some variants involve board size, ranging up to 12 x 12 boards, while the most common are played on 8 x 8 checkers boards.
The American version involves only diagonal moves across an 8 x 8 board. The checkers are placed only on the dark squares. Each player starts with 12 pawns in the 3 rows closest to them. Pawns can only move forward. Jump other players to capture their pawns.
Move a pawn to the furthest line to King (or Queen) the pawn (this is done by placing a second checker on top). The King or Queen can now move forward and backwards along the board to capture!
The game ends when one player's pawns have all been captured, or if both players are unable to make a move.
Once you get the hang of the American version, feel free to play with the international versions, learning such things as Flying Kings, sequence captures, and movement styles.
